Canals: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Canals is situated on a terrace above the Garonne Valley. The Canal latéral divides the town into the two districts of Canals haut and Villelongue. The RD820 and RD813 roads cross Canals and make travelling there easier.

Culture and History

The church of Canals belonged to Saint-Sernin Abbey in Toulouse and was incorporated into the new Diocese of Montauban in 1318.

At the foot of the church of Canals stands the Lavoir Napoléon III. It dates from the 17th century. The laundry was usually rinsed rather than washed in the lavoir.

The Canal des Deux Mers was excavated in Canals in the 17th century. From the 1920s onwards, the aeronautical beacon of Canals served as a visual marker for air navigation at night or in fog. The beacon's flashes had a range of 80 km.

Activities

The Circuit de canal à Garonne has a starting point at the park at the entrance to Canals on the D820. The circular route offers two easy variants of 11 km and 19 km. It leads through the waterways from the Canal des Deux Mers to the Garonne.
