Reilhaguet: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The GR 64 passes through Reilhaguet and is locally regarded as part of the Way of St. James. The same trail runs along the valley between Reilhaguet and Laval. The 2026 “Lot Saint James” guide also lists Reilhaguet at kilometre 13.5 on the GR652.

Culture and History

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption in Reilhaguet appears to have been rebuilt between 1467 and the end of the 15th century. Its nave comprises three rib-vaulted bays separated by wide transverse arches. The façade has a bell gable. The west portal has several archivolts with broken-arch profiles; above them are a small niche and a three-lobed window.

The stained-glass windows of the Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption bear the signature “G. P. Dagrand Bordeaux” and the year 1884. Its north chapel contains the registered work “Peinture monumentale et litre funéraire”. The wall paintings in the north chapel depict angels playing the psaltery, harp and organ, and were classified as historic monuments on 5 October 1972. The statue “Christ on the Cross” dates from the first quarter of the 16th century. The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was registered in its entirety as a historic monument on 18 December 2023.

Château de Laval

The Château de Laval is a former fortified manor house built on a motte. The surviving buildings are arranged in a U-shape around a courtyard on a rectangular earthwork. The Château de Laval has a square tower dating from the 13th century. Most of the surviving buildings, particularly the tower, date essentially from the 14th century. The tower is fully preserved over three storeys and contains remarkable painted decorations.

The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Laval has a single-nave layout, a bell gable and a pointed-arch portal. It may date from the 16th or 17th century.
