Vic-En-Bigorre: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Every year at the end of June, Vic-en-Bigorre hosts the gastronomy festival „Les Tablées de Vic“. The venue is the hall of Vic-en-Bigorre and its immediate surroundings: the festival takes place both inside and around the hall. For several days, leading French chefs come to Vic-en-Bigorre to offer special dishes and menus.

Markets and festivals

The hall was built in 1862 by Jean-Jacques Latour, modelled on Victor Baltard’s Halles centrales in Paris, and is still used for the Saturday markets. The Saturday market of Vic-en-Bigorre features stalls under the market hall selling fruit and vegetables, poultry, prepared foods, cold cuts and fish.

Another historic event is the Vicus Bigorra festival. It is a festival spanning several eras, with Slavic camps, medieval battles in armour, knight tournaments and rapier fights from the Baroque period.

Culture and history

The Hôtel de Journet was built in 1770. Since 21 November 1977, its façades, roofs, entrance hall and the wood panelling of the former hospital ward have been protected as a Monument historique.

The Church of Saint-Martin is the only medieval building preserved in Vic-en-Bigorre and houses a 17th-century organ. The church in Vic-en-Bigorre also houses the protected object „Vierge debout couronnée“, which was listed as a protected movable cultural object in 1982.

The town hall of Vic-en-Bigorre was built in the 18th century on the site of the former church cemetery. The town hall displays a limestone block from the former 17th-century municipal building, bearing the town’s only surviving coat of arms. In front of the town hall stands the statue „La Revanche“, created by Edmond Desca in 1889. It commemorates the War of 1870 and is the oldest war memorial in the Département of Hautes-Pyrénées.

The Canal des Moulin was created in 1281 and begins on the Échez upstream from Vic-en-Bigorre. Today, it is an adornment of Vic-en-Bigorre’s town centre and an essential part of the local cultural heritage.

Cultural programme

The Cinéma de l’Atelier shows both films and theatre performances. The Médiathèque de Vic-en-Bigorre has a children’s section, an adults’ section, a comics section and a section for study and research. Exhibitions, storytelling events and numerous public activities are offered there throughout the year.

The monthly manga meeting „Mangavore“ at the Médiathèque de Vic-en-Bigorre includes discussions and activities centred around manga. The Théâtre de l’Atelier offers theatre, concerts and other performances.

Water and nature

The Espace Aquatique Louis Fourcade offers family water games and sporting activities in the indoor pool as well as in the large outdoor pool. The Espace Aquatique Louis Fourcade also includes a hammam, sauna, relaxation area and solarium.

The Parc Naturel Urbain of Vic-en-Bigorre includes an urban apiary, children’s play facilities, a City-Stade and a pond. For its „Parcours Famille“, the park has received an award from the Fédération Française de Pêche.
