Culture and History
The fortified Église des Templiers was built between the 12th and 14th centuries. Its medieval fortification features include traces of a drawbridge, battlements, loopholes and two towers. One is named Arsenal; the other served as a keep and now houses a clock.
The Chapelle de Solférino was rebuilt on the site of a medieval hermitage dedicated to Saint Peter. On the occasion of Napoleon III and Eugénie de Montijo's visit to Luz-Saint-Sauveur in 1859, Napoleon III is said to have requested support; construction was completed in 1863. The monograms N and E of the imperial couple can still be seen there today.
The Musée Napoléon is one of the two museums in Luz-Saint-Sauveur. The Musée du Trésor displays sacred art objects; the oldest exhibits date from the 13th century.
Traditions and Regional Cuisine
Les côtelettes de la Saint-Michel takes place on the last Friday, Saturday and Sunday of September, around Michaelmas. At this event, AOP Barèges-Gavarnie sheep is eaten as a regional culinary tradition.

The thermal water of Luz-Saint-Sauveur emerges as a 33 °C hot spring and contains sulphur and Barégine.
The Boucle du Château de Sainte-Marie is an easy, 3.0-kilometre circular hiking route starting in Luz-Saint-Sauveur. The Boucle des Cascades begins in the thermal district of Luz-Saint-Sauveur near the Hountalade spring and leads through the Agnouède forest to the large Mensongé waterfall.
The Promenade Napoléon & Eugénie offers panoramic views from the Chapelle Solférino and the Pont Napoléon. The ruins of the Château de Sainte-Marie also offer panoramic views over the valley. There is also bungee jumping at the Pont Napoléon: participants jump from a height of 65 metres above the water and the gorges of Luz-Saint-Sauveur.
