The Pont d’Espagne is located near Cauterets at an altitude of 1,500 metres in the Pyrenees National Park. Waterfalls, coniferous forests and impressive views of the Gave de Marcadau and the Gave de Gaube characterise this place.

Nature
Lac de Gaube is located on the grounds of the Pont d’Espagne, seven kilometres from Cauterets. From the centre of Cauterets, the Pont d’Espagne can be reached by car or shuttle in 15 minutes.
Winter sports
The Cirque du Lys is Cauterets’ alpine ski area. It can be reached from the village of Cauterets by the Lys gondola lifts and has blue, red and black runs. Its highest point is at an altitude of 2,400 metres.
In winter, the Pont d’Espagne offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tobogganing, among other activities. The Plateau du Clot has slopes for beginners and marked snowshoe trails.
Culture and history
The Maison du Parc national des Pyrénées in Cauterets presents three permanent exhibitions on three levels, as well as temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
The Notre-Dame de Cauterets church also welcomes tourists and spa guests seeking a moment of spiritual reflection. It was rebuilt twice, in 1827 and 1886; the portal tower and bell tower were added in 1933.
The accessible themed circular trail Chemin de Lecture leads through Cauterets and uses information boards to explain the key stages in the history of the town. The Au fil de l’eau trail comprises ten stops. It explains how springs, the Gave, former watercress beds, the thermal heritage and flood management have shaped the development of Cauterets.
Cauterets’ thermal heritage includes monumental façades, grand hotels and distinctive 19th-century architecture that bears witness to the Belle Époque.
Local traditions
The berlingot confectionery workshops in Cauterets offer daily demonstrations of how the sweet is made and explain its history. The Pavillon des Abeilles welcomes visitors who would like to learn more about bees and honey.
