Arbéost was founded in the 12th century. The village’s cultural heritage includes an 18th-century church; its pastoral heritage is also part of Arbéost’s cultural heritage. Arbéost also lies within the area of affiliation of the Parc national des Pyrénées.

Hiking
The “Les quartiers d'Arbéost” route passes through the village, forests, hay meadows and barns, using historic sections of trail along the way. Another hike leads to the Cirque du Litor: this is a very easy, 5.3-kilometre family route lasting around 1 hour and 30 minutes. It runs through the Soulor summer pastures in a high-alpine setting.
The Cirque du Litor grazing area includes old dry-stone huts and a new wooden hut. The route to Lac de Soum leads to a small lake with panoramic views.
Culture
The “Parcours Patrimoine: une communauté montagnarde fondée par les cadets” trail is located in the village and begins at the town hall car park at 50 route du Soulor. It presents the defining cultural heritage and various facets of a mountain community that had up to 1,000 inhabitants in the 19th century.
At Col du Soulor, the “Patrimoine en balade” smartphone app offers an immersive, connected exploration of the history of Lestelle-Bétharram, Ferrières, Arthez d'Asson and Arbéost.
Nature
Col du Soulor is considered a very good birdwatching location. White storks, black storks and cranes use this migration route every year from late summer and in spring.
Local life
The “Lou Pastou” saloir offers tours of the aging cellar, along with explanations of how it works and the individual stages of the aging process.
