In the lower part of Villeneuve-de-Rivière stands the Église Notre Dame de l'Assomption, a three-aisled Neo-Romanesque church that replaced an older church in the mid-19th century. It houses a restored wooden Christ from the 12th century and a wrought-iron grille from the 18th century that came from the Abbaye de Bonnefont.

The bastide of Villeneuve was founded in the 13th century and received a charter from Roger Bernard, Count of Foix, in 1285.

The Grottes de Montmaurin and the Grottes de Lespugue, both caves, are located in the vicinity of Villeneuve-de-Rivière. The Grotte de Gargas is a cave in the surrounding area; the Pic de Montbajan is a peak in the same area.
