Cintegabelle: Apartments and Holiday Homes

La boucle de Laurède is an easy 7.2-kilometre hiking trail that begins at the car park of the salle des fêtes in Cintegabelle. The route is certified by the Fédération Française de Randonnée and included in the Plan Départemental des Itinéraires de Promenade et de Randonnée.
It runs between the Ariège and the slopes through preserved natural areas. Along the way, there are views of the Pyrenees and the surrounding agricultural landscapes. Another footpath, Le parcours, leads through Cintegabelle and to its historic remains; it also includes archaeological exhibits in the town hall.
Those who choose Cintegabelle as their destination may want to rent a holiday apartment for their stay.
Nature
The banks of the Ariège near Cintegabelle are part of an accessible Natura 2000 site and are suitable for walking and picnicking. Walks along the river allow visitors to observe the river fauna and hear birdsong.
The Sentier de l’îlot is a nature trail on an island in the Ariège in Cintegabelle. It leads through a wetland with characteristic flora and fauna, including colourful birds and white willows. Ten information panels explain the formation of the island, its vegetation and the biodiversity of the area.
Culture
The guided tour of the Abbaye de Boulbonne lasts approximately 50 minutes and focuses on the northern wing of the abbey. The Abbaye de Boulbonne in Cintegabelle also offers guided tours by prior reservation for holders of the Pass Patrimoine.
The Église de la Nativité de Marie in Cintegabelle dates from the 10th, 15th and 16th centuries. It was rebuilt and extended directly against the protective walls of the Fort de Montmerle. The Portasse, a heavy iron gate, opened onto the fortified complex.
The grand organ of Cintegabelle was made by Moucherel, a famous organ builder from Lorraine. It was originally installed in the abbey church of Boulbonne, which was consecrated in 1742 by Monseigneur de Champflour.
History
The Fort de Montmerle included a tower on the slope that monitored the entrance to the Ariège. The fort is associated with the fortified hilltop above a slope that drops steeply towards the Ariège.
