Culture and History
The Lices du Castrum were a covered defensive walkway above the former town moat. The town was defended from the 15th century onwards at the Lices du Castrum; the site also hosted knights’ games, tournaments and livestock markets. The Place du Ravelin is a fortification that defended the Porte de l’Aigle.
The Ancienne Halle aux grains was rebuilt in 1864 on the site of the former covered market. The present 47-metre-high bell tower of the Église Saint-Pierre was completed in 1905.
The Église Saint-Pierre houses a statue of Notre-Dame la Belle dating from the mid-16th century. The altar is made of stone and marble and was produced by the Giscard workshop in Toulouse.
The Maison Roucariès is a 17th-century house and an example of regional half-timbered architecture. The Hôtel de Malbos was built in 1580 and has remained in the same family since the 16th century through inheritances and marriages.
The village of Carmaing grew up around a château located at the highest point of the settlement, which was partially destroyed in 1622.
Nature and Trails
The Lac de l’Orme Blanc covers 5 hectares and has an 80-metre-long beach. A 1.5-kilometre walking path leads around the Lac de l’Orme Blanc and offers shaded areas with picnic tables and benches. Supervised swimming is possible in the Lac de l’Orme Blanc during the summer season.
The Le Castrum de Caraman route leads from the Lac de l’Orme Blanc to the historic centre of Caraman. This easy hiking trail is 6.1 kilometres long and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The quiz walk through Caraman guides visitors through the village streets using a smartphone. The greenway along the Canal du Midi runs past the village of Caraman.

The Centre culturel Antoine de Saint-Exupéry presents shows and renowned artists throughout the year.
Since 2016, Caramanga has been an annual festival of geek culture in the Lauragais region, focusing on manga, comics and science fiction.
