In Bellesserre, local history, viewpoints and events combine with attractions in the surrounding area and further afield. The Église Sainte-Madeleine is a local landmark in the village. The Télégraphe Chappe also shapes the history of the commune: the Télégraphe-Chappe tower in Bellesserre served as a relay on the line from Avignon to Bordeaux. A scale model of this tower is located in the council chamber as a reminder of the commune’s historic heritage.
Culture and History
Bellesserre is crossed by the route du télégraphe. In the 19th century, the commune had a Télégraphe Chappe station at the lieu-dit Montplaisir. The historic site of Abbaye de Grandselve is also located in the surrounding area, as is the Château de Frescati. Further afield in the wider region around Bellesserre are the Château de Pérignon and the Musée campanaire de L'Isle-Jourdain.
Nature and Hiking
The Point de vue Gilet offers unobstructed views to the south. At the 2024 Trail du Marguestaud, a 12 km route each for Nordic walking and hiking, as well as a 6.5 km family hike, were offered; minors were allowed to participate when accompanied. The fifth edition of the Trail du Marguestaud was planned for 2023 and the sixth for 2024. Each of the different routes was intended to pass through Launac, Le Burgaud, Bellesserre, Drudas and Pelleport. The Base de loisirs de Bouconne is also located further afield in the wider region.
Festivals and Cuisine
The Fête de Bellesserre featured folklore, gastronomy, music and activities for young people. One edition of the festival also included a ball-trap shooting event and a pétanque competition. At one edition of the Fête de Bellesserre, the communal meal consisted of Melon des coteaux, country ham, lamb, sausage with aligot, cheese and croustade.
