Sarraguzan: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the centre of the village of Sarraguzan stands the contemporary work of art “Cascade de Christian Pierrefix”. It was created as part of the International Campagn'art Sculpture Symposium.

History

Sarraguzan was already settled in Roman times. In the 19th century, Roman pottery, ancient graves and, in particular, a white marble sarcophagus were discovered near the former church. The church’s glacis area is also part of the village’s character.

The motte of Sarraguzan is one of the most impressive and best-preserved earthwork castles in the département. The motte and the cemetery of Sarraguzan are part of the Astarac hill heritage.

Nature

The village of Sarraguzan can be explored independently at any time. It lies amid gentle hills and preserved agricultural landscapes; in clear weather, Sarraguzan offers views of the Pyrenees.

Regional Produce

At Ferme du Rey in Sarraguzan, Cathy and Daniel Cocchiola traditionally breed and fatten ducks with whole maize kernels. At Ferme du Rey, they produce confit, foie gras, rillettes, fritons and prepared dishes according to Gascon tradition.

The area around Sarraguzan is shaped by family-run farms engaged in livestock farming, grain cultivation and the production of local specialities. A stay includes getting to know the producers and sampling regional products.
