Juilles: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

North of Juilles, the GR®653 runs towards Santiago de Compostela. It is the southern route to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle and passes through the Gers département, among other places.

History

The entire Cistercian grange of La Grange, including the land of cadastral parcel AE 52, has been protected as a Monument historique by decree of 26 February 2015. Its main construction phase dates from the 15th and 16th centuries; it was probably dependent on the Gimont or Planselve abbeys. La Grange is notable for the exceptional use of rammed earth as a building material.

The village church of Juilles has a bell gable and dates from 1781. At the entrance is a holy-water font made from an ancient Gallo-Roman capital of Saint-Béat marble dating from the 4th or 5th century AD. The church also houses a sculptural group of the Virgin and Child from the second half of the 13th century, carved from limewood and listed as a historic monument.

The church of Marrox has a bell gable dating from 1784 and was originally located on the nearby hill.

Nature

Juilles is part of the type 2 ZNIEFF Cours de la Gimone et de la Marcaoue.

Juilles also includes the ZNIEFF Les prairies humides d’Aurimont et Montiron. The area consists of very old natural and semi-natural flood meadows along the banks of the Gimone and is home to exceptional biodiversity.

The ZNIEFF La terrasse et bois de Juilles consists of dry, agricultural slopes with scattered woodland and trees. Orchids characteristic of the region grow there.

Routes and Sightseeing

The La Gimone et ses Villages cultural and natural heritage route passes through Juilles and by the village church; as a cycling route, it is rated difficult, is 42.8 kilometres long and is also suitable for electric bicycles.

In the village of Juilles, individual, self-guided visits are available continuously from 1 January to 31 December 2026; admission is free. Free parking is available for the village of Juilles.
