Salles-la-Source: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes
Salles-la-Source lies on the slope of the Causse Comtal and stretches across three levels of limestone cliffs. In this landscape, the Cascade de La Roque plunges over three levels amid greenery and moss at the edge of the Causse Comtal. The Cascade de Salles-la-Source is fed by an underground river that flows from the Aven du Tindoul de la Vayssière.
Culture
The Musée des arts et métiers traditionnels has been designated a “Musée de France” since September 17, 2003. The transept of Saint-Paul Church dates from the 12th century; eight capitals are decorated with various sculptures. Saint-Austremoine Church has a Romanesque transept dating from the 11th century. It also houses a remarkable painted limestone cross from the 15th century, known as the “Cross of the Winegrowers.”
More than 200 tumuli have been recorded in the municipality of Salles-la-Source. According to a recent inventory, there are 67 dolmens there. Seven or eight of these dolmens are clearly visible during walks through the municipality. Trame d'Arts showcases works by painters, engravers, sculptors, photographers, and mosaic artists.
Hiking and Climbing
The cultural hike from Cadayrac to Salles-la-Source is 7 kilometers long. The Les Corniches du Créneau hike begins at Place du Griffoul in the upper village, in front of the church. Other sites along the Les Corniches du Créneau hike include the fortified church of Souyri.
The Salles-la-Source climbing site has more than 130 routes graded from 3b to 8a on cliffs just under 25 meters high.
Regional Products
Domaine du Mioula produces AOC Marcillac wine and, by appointment, offers guided vineyard walks with commentary as well as a presentation of the facilities. La Ferme des Vézinies offers, upon reservation, approximately two-hour guided tours of the farm as well as tastings of Roquefort or cheese made from the milk of its own sheep.
