Between Rodez and Villefranche-de-Rouergue, the GR62B trail passes through Brandonnet. Those who choose Brandonnet as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
One of the historic mills of Brandonnet on the Alzou is La Gineste. It has existed since the time of Henry IV and was successively used for grinding grain, pressing nuts, producing oil and generating electricity.
Near the Pont de Berteille lies Berteille, an almost hidden mill in a hollow of the Alzou that was formerly used as a nightclub. Le Bousquet, a mill that formerly served as a sawmill, is also located among the trees.
The Prieuré de Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Brandonnet was built by Bishop François d’Estaing between 1501 and 1529, possibly over an older religious building. Some remains of this structure are still preserved, including two side chapels. A stained-glass window installed in 1939 depicts Sainte Thérèse with roses, protecting Brandonnet. There, a bell classified as a historic monument bears the inscription “Santa Maria Ora Pronobis 1700”.
At the exit of Brandonnet in the direction of Pont de Berteille stands a replica of the Grotte de Lourdes, built in 1932.
Townscape
The farms and hamlets in Brandonnet have preserved their local character. They include large slate roofs and turrets with dovecotes.
La Taverne in Brandonnet is a family-run restaurant offering a daily menu throughout the week. Group meals as well as private meals and evening events are also possible there.
