Olemps: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Olemps, two thirds of the area is used for agriculture or preserved as natural areas. In addition, there is the Bois de Linars, a 32-hectare sensitive natural area with maintained walking trails. Those who choose Olemps as a place to stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Nature

The Bois de Linars walking area offers a 5-km loop and a 2-km loop. Both trails can be combined into a 7-km route. The Olemps–Toizac loop is 11.0 km long, takes 3 hours and 5 minutes, and is rated easy. The Bois de Linars loop is 8.2 km long, takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, and is rated moderate.

The Sentier des mille et une plantes begins at the car park of the Pierre Loubière public school.

Culture and history

The Château d'Olemps was built by Hugues Caulet at the end of the 16th century. It is an example of architecture in the Louis XIII style; its striking polychromy contrasts slate and red sandstone with limestone.

The Croix d’Olemps is a 15th-century cross made of pink sandstone and classified as a historic monument. It is decorated on both sides: the front depicts Christ on the cross, while the back shows the Virgin Mary with the Child; Saint James and Saint Christopher are depicted on the sides. The Croix d’Olemps originally stood at the entrance to the three-arched Gothic bridge of La Mouline.

The Château de Castelgaillard retains a 17th-century appearance with mullioned windows. The older Château de Castelgaillard was a country residence of the Counts of Rodez. The former manor house in Toizac was built in the 16th century; the upper part of its tower served as a dovecote.

Orientation

The footbridge is 31 metres long and 1.95 metres wide. It crosses the River Aveyron and serves walkers and hikers in nature. There are picnic tables near the footbridge.

Event

The Fête d'Olemps takes place mainly at the beginning of October. It includes a fair, a concert dinner, and a traditional fireworks display organised by the municipality.
