Culture and History
Camon is a fortified village that developed around a former abbey, which later became a priory. Parts of Camon’s two fortification systems are still visible. The village’s rose-growing tradition is linked to a 19th-century winegrowing tradition: one rose per row of vines indicated the vitality of the crops.

Fishing is possible in peaceful surroundings on the Hers at Camon; the river is suitable for both beginners and experienced anglers.
The Pont de Camon on the Voie Verte offers the best view of Camon. The circular route Le tour de Camon runs for 1.5 km along the river. On this circular route, visitors can see the fortified village’s ramparts.
The 38-km Chemin des Filatiers is a former railway line that has been developed into a flat, well-maintained path for walks and cycling, providing access to Camon. Camon can be reached on foot or by bicycle via the Voie Verte between Mirepoix and Lavelanet, as well as via the Pont de Camon.
Surroundings
The historic site of Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Beaulieu is located near Camon. The peaks of Pique de Montsec, Pech de Gendarme, Sarrat de la Barthe and Pech Auché are also in the surrounding area.
Further afield in the region around Camon are the ruins of Château de Lafage and the Notre-Dame de Prouille monastery.
