The Circuit de l'Eselbahn begins in Vilsberg, a hiking trail with historical significance. The moderately difficult circular route is 11.7 kilometres long; the stated duration is 3 hours and 45 minutes. The starting point is in the centre of Vilsberg, at the car park opposite the church. In places, the trail follows the route of a former metre-gauge railway that connected Lutzelbourg with Drulingen and transported hewn sandstone blocks from the quarries of Vilsberg and Hangviller to the Rhine–Marne Canal in Lutzelbourg.

History

The first loop leads to the 19th-century Église Saint-Charles, built in 1827, as well as the remains of the former railway station. The circular route features explanatory panels in three languages. Its forest loop leads to a shooting range that is more than 150 years old.
