Hiking
The hiking trail Le chant des ruisseaux follows streams that flow into the Nied River, near the border between Moselle and Saar. Along the way, it combines scenic experiences with the discovery of Lorraine’s architectural heritage. The circular hiking trail associated with Schwerdorff is described as moderately difficult, 13.8 kilometres long, with a stated duration of four hours.
Those who choose Schwerdorff for their stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
The Église de l'Assomption de la bienheureuse vierge Marie was built in 1886 in the Neo-Romanesque style. Its furnishings include an organ made by the Dalstein-Haerpfer workshops. In 1897, six epitaphs of the Lords of Haen, carved by a carpenter and bearing their coats of arms, were also added to the church.
Construction work on the Chapelle du sacré-coeur began on 7 March 1921 and was financed through a collection among the parishioners. During the Second World War, the chapel was partially destroyed and subsequently rebuilt through donations from the parishioners. In connection with the Chapelle du sacré-coeur, the parish took a vow to celebrate a solemn Mass with a procession every year on the Friday after Corpus Christi.
Local Area
Local agriculture includes La Ferme du Merisier, which traditionally keeps pigs and Salers suckler cows. At Les coutures d'Otzwiller, locally produced goods are sold; visits are possible on request. Every animal there is accompanied by tailor-made clothing.
