Discover Rédange through its waters, paths and long history. The Beler flows through the town; people fish and take walks at the ponds. Archaeological finds date back a long way, while Saint-Brice Church and traces of mining and the steel industry offer further perspectives on the past. When choosing a holiday rental for your stay, you can decide whether to focus on walks, a hike, the town’s history or the activities held at the ponds each year.

Ponds, Events and Paths

The ponds of Rédange are used for fishing and walking. Leisure activities, cultural events and festivals take place there every year. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the exact dates in advance. One pond in Rédange also served as a reservoir for a nearby former foundry in the steel industry. The ponds are therefore linked not only to leisure activities but also to the town’s industrial past.

The Boucle de Belval et de l’Étang starts in Rédange. The hike first follows the circuit de l’Etang and then passes through the idyllic Beler Valley. The Beler River also flows through Rédange; the valley section is part of the route described. This gives you two different options: walks and fishing at the ponds, or a hike with a named starting point and a specified route. The transition from the circuit de l’Etang to the Beler Valley gives you a clear reference point if you want to make hiking the focus of your stay.

Archaeological and Industrial Traces

Gallo-Roman coins and pottery fragments from the same period were found in gardens in the old village of Rédange. Merovingian graves were uncovered at the end of the 19th century. These discoveries support the historical understanding that Rédange was already inhabited more than 2,000 years ago. The different types of finds and periods span a long stretch of time: the coins and pottery fragments date from the Gallo-Roman period, and the graves from the Merovingian period. Those interested in a place’s history can see these clues as distinct stages in its past.

Industrialisation also features in the historical record of Rédange. At the time, the town had as many as three blast furnaces; two were operated by the Société des Mines et Usines de Rédange-Dilling. Rédange also had a second mine, the Mine Heydt. The former use of one pond as a reservoir points to a nearby former foundry in the steel industry. The blast furnaces, mine and foundry offer a different perspective from the archaeological finds, turning attention to the history of mining and steel production in the town.

Saint-Brice and the Organs

Saint-Brice Church was inaugurated in 1897. Its organs date from 1926 and were built by Franz Kriess; Jean-Georges Koenig modified them in 1954–1955. This makes it possible to distinguish the history of the church building from the later history of its organs: the instruments were added almost three decades after the inauguration, and were modified nearly three decades later. For choosing what interests you, this strand of church history complements the archaeological and industrial themes with a specific history of the building and its organs.
