Hattonchâtel is situated on a rocky promontory at an altitude of 400 metres.
Culture and history
The Château d'Hattonchâtel was completely rebuilt by Henri Jacquelin between 1923 and 1928. Some remains of a building dating from the 11th century were incorporated into the reconstruction.
The Maison de la voûte is part of the former entrance gate to Hattonchâtel. Among Hattonchâtel's surviving architectural monuments from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries is the Maison des arcades.
The altarpiece in Hattonchâtel chapel, created by Ligier Richier, is made of polychrome-painted carved stone and depicts three episodes from the Passion of Christ.
The Saint-Benoît-en-Woëvre Abbey was founded in the 12th century; today, only a façade remains.

The C17B Chemin du Château circular trail runs below the Côtes and around the Château.
The C14 Ravin des Harevaux circular trail forms a deep depression between the limestone slopes that enclose and tower over it.
