Culture and History

The Château de Tumejus in Bulligny was probably built around 1432 in connection with the marriage of the Countess of Graux and the Dame de Tumejus to Ferri de Ligniville. Bulligny's historic heritage also includes a barn door dating from 1626, part of the village-street layout.

The wine-growing hamlet of Les Blaissières had been a small fief belonging to the de Ligniville family since the early 15th century and produced a recognised high-quality white wine.

Wine and Village Landscape

Bulligny is one of the eight villages in the AOC Côtes de Toul, which extends for around 20 kilometres from north to south along the slopes of the Moselle Valley.

Bulligny is considered a Lorraine hillside street village, surrounded by orchards, with woodland on the headland and an agricultural plain. Its structure, typical of this type of village, consists of two rows of adjoining houses enclosing a widened street with “Us wirden”.

Hiking

The “L’Étrange Étang Bleu” circular hike starts in Bulligny, is 8 km or 9.5 km long, of moderate difficulty, and takes 3 to 4 hours. The section of the route near Bulligny offers panoramic views over the southern Toulois and the Pays de Colombey.

The “Entre vignes et forêts autour de Bulligny” hiking route is an easy 9.75 km walk with an average duration of 3 hours and 20 minutes. It passes through vineyards and woodland to the Étang de Létange and can be reached via Bulligny-Crézilles railway station.
