The Château de Nieul was originally built as a medieval fortress; its existence has been documented since the 11th century. The château and its park have been protected as Monuments historiques since 1946. From its esplanade, the interpretation trail gave visitors the opportunity to discover how the Moulin des Côtes worked by turning a millstone.

History
The two reposoirs of Nieul once marked the route of religious processions. They have been listed as historic monuments since 16 September 1949.
The parish church of Saint-Pierre, now the Church of the Assumption of Mary, dates from the 12th and 13th centuries. A chapel was added to it in the 15th century. Its apse contains the painting “Sainte Thérèse d’Avila”, which was classified as a protected object in 1982.
The historic site of Abbaye de Boeuil, the Artothèque régionale du Limousin museum (closed), the FRAC-Artothèque Nouvelle-Aquitaine museum and the historic site of Oradour-sur-Glane are located in the vicinity of Nieul.

The Vallée de la Glane à Nieul is designated as a continental ZNIEFF type 1 and covers 146.61 hectares. The ZNIEFF Vallée de la Glane à Nieul comprises ponds, pools, wet meadows, tall-herb communities, marshy areas and alluvial forests that are functionally connected to the Glane.
The wetlands of the Vallée de la Glane à Nieul provide a habitat for the scarce large blue (Lycaena dispar) and the southern water vole (Arvicola sapidus).
