Culture and History
In Marval, the façades and roofs of the Château de Marval have been partially protected as a monument historique since 15 November 1988. The château preserves medieval vaulted cellars as well as a guardroom with a painted and gilded coffered ceiling in the Louis XVI style.
The Église Saint-Amand in Marval was built in the 12th century and rebuilt after the destruction of 1569. Its Romanesque bell tower features blind arcades, and the roof is made of chestnut shingles.
Burgou was born in Nadalie. The oral legend of a Limousin Robin Hood who took from the rich and gave to the poor has been passed down about him.
In the wider region around Marval are the historic site of Abbaye de la Peyrouse and the ruins of Abbaye de Boschaud.
Trails and Landscape
Les trois forêts: les sentiers de Burgou is a 12 km route that begins in Marval at the Place de l’église and runs through the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park. The Chemin des étangs is a 10.2 km circular trail.
The Étang du Got, also known as Étang de Montfreboeuf, is a Napoleonic pond offering views across the Limousin landscape.
