Le Perthus: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The Fort de Bellegarde was built by Vauban in the 18th century and is considered a masterpiece of military architecture. The Salles Romaines de Panissars display finds recovered during excavations at the Col de Panissars, including photographs, amphorae, busts, texts and a model of the site. The Salles Médiévales de Panissars display medieval architectural elements and evidence of the monks’ way of life at the time, uncovered during excavations.

The exhibition “La Retirada – 80 ans” traces the journey of Spanish refugees through Le Perthus during their exile. In the surrounding area of el Pertús are also the Fort de Bellaguarda, the ruins of Priorat del Coll de Panissars and the historic site of Castell dels Moros.

Landscape

The terrace of the Fort de Bellegarde offers expansive views over the Roussillon plain and the upper Empordà. In the surrounding area of el Pertús are the peaks of Puig de la Puja, Roc Civader, el Fornàs and Puig de Llobregat. The castle of Castell de Requesens lies in the wider regional area around el Pertús.

Things to Do

The Sentier du Perthus offers views of the Albères Massif, Canigou, Spain and the Fort de Bellegarde; the fort can only be viewed from the outside. The Le Perthus–Col de l’Ouillat cycling route starts at the car park at the entrance to Le Perthus and climbs uphill to the Col de l’Ouillat and the Chalet des Albères.
