Nature

Culture and History

The Temple protestant de Meyrueis features a neoclassical style and an octagonal floor plan unique in Lozère. Its shell was completed in 1842. Since 24 September 2008, the Temple protestant de Meyrueis has been protected as a historic monument. It is open to the public in summer and hosts various cultural events, particularly concerts.

A path from the centre of Meyrueis leads to the summit of the Rocher du Château and offers panoramic views of the town. Since the early Middle Ages, the Rocher du Château has been home to the fortress of the Barons of Meyrueis.

The historic centre of Meyrueis includes medieval and Renaissance houses, a tower and gates belonging to the town fortifications, as well as classical mansions along picturesque lanes.

Activities

The Le versant nord de l’Aigoual hike starts in Meyrueis and leads over two days and 36 kilometres to the summit of Mont Aigoual at an altitude of 1,565 metres. A family hike also starts in Meyrueis and leads to a noteworthy 16th-century château.

The Flânerie villageoise de Meyrueis is a free, 1.5-hour guided walk with storyteller Sandie Blanc. The village’s secrets and legends take centre stage, and no reservation is required.

Local Highlights

The Foire de la Saint-Michel takes place in Meyrueis on the last weekends of September and showcases local products. A market is held throughout the year on Wednesdays and Fridays.
