Chastanier: Holiday apartments and houses

Nature

The Circuit de l’Art Sacré is classified as difficult and takes 6 hours and 15 minutes.

For the circular trail, a car park at the entrance to the village in the direction of the church is recommended.

The trail descends into the Chapeauroux valley and crosses the river by either a bridge or a ford, depending on the water level. The Circuit de l’Art Sacré also crosses the Clamouse via a stone-built ford.

For travel by road, Chastanier is located 10 kilometres west of Langogne and can be reached via the N88 and the D34.

Culture

The Église Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur in Chastanier is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century and dedicated to Saint James the Greater. It was dependent on Langogne Abbey and formed a stop on the route to Compostela.

The Musée d’Art Sacré is located on the first floor of the former presbytery, which is attached to the church. It displays liturgical ornaments and objects used in religious rituals. The collection also includes historic textiles made from rare silk fabrics with embroidery in gold, silver and silk threads.
