Coast and nature
On the left bank of the Orb, Valras-Plage offers a wilder beach with the highest dunes on the French Mediterranean coast in the protected Les Orpellières area. Les Orpellières at the mouth of the Orb is a 170-hectare Natura 2000 site protected by the Conservatoire du littoral and shared between Valras-Plage and Sérignan. The Maison de site des Orpellières offers exhibitions and educational activities about the local fauna and flora, as well as the area's conservation objectives.
Anyone choosing Valras-Plage as a holiday destination can rent a holiday apartment for their stay.
Water and trails
The Ecole de Voile Valras-Plage uses the Orb and the sea and offers sailing, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, as well as rentals and courses. The Lily Passeur is a river ferry that crosses the Orb, travels to Les Orpellières, carries bicycles and scooters, and operates from mid-June to mid-September. The Sentier du littoral entre Orb et Aude is an easy 2.6-kilometre path accessible from Valras-Plage via the waterfront promenade.
Culture and history
Valras-la-Plage consisted of a few huts built by fishermen on the right bank of the Orb. The Saint-Pierre celebration takes place every last weekend in June and honours the Mediterranean, as well as fishermen and sailors; the programme includes, among other things, joutes, a procession, guided tours and concerts. The Petit Train Touristique de Valras-Plage offers a 45-minute tour through the town with information about its history, beaches and harbour. The Palais de la mer in Valras-Plage is a venue for concerts, performances and conferences.
Family
The Palais de la Maquette – Musée du Jouet in Valras-Plage displays huge, animated and motorised LEGO and K’NEX models featuring themes such as a seaside resort, a village, Star Wars and an amusement park. Le Paradis de pitchous has been considered a family institution for more than 30 years; during one weekend, Valras-Plage is transformed into an open-air amusement park.
Market
The year-round Halles Marty in Valras-Plage offers, among other things, fish from local fishermen.
