Ganges: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ganges is a gateway to the Causses and Cévennes, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and recognised for their Mediterranean agro-pastoral landscape. Numerous scattered historical remains and traces have been preserved in the old town of Ganges.

Culture

The Théâtre Albarède is a theatre in Ganges where public performances take place. The building that now houses the Théâtre Albarède was one of Ganges’ most important textile factories at the beginning of the 20th century. The Théâtre Albarède offered theatre workshops for children, teenagers and adults.

The Église Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul in Ganges is open year-round from Monday to Friday with free admission. The Protestant Temple de Ganges has a distinctive heptagonal shape and towers over Ganges with its bell tower. The Grandes Orgues de Ganges were built in 1869 by the Manufacture Théodore Puget Père et Fils in Toulouse. One of the nine fountains in old Ganges dates from the 18th century. The Hôtel Bertrand de Maisonneuve has fully preserved the features of the homes of industrial aristocrats from the 17th century.

Nature

The Rieutord disappears underground south of Sumène before joining the river near Ganges. The Ganges–Sumène voie verte follows a 4.5-kilometre former railway line and crosses five viaducts as well as two illuminated tunnels. The guidebook “Autour de Ganges et Sumène” brings together all marked routes in the valleys of the Hérault, Vis and Rieutord for hiking, mountain biking and horse-riding itineraries.

Cuisine

The Marché de Ganges takes place every Friday morning and welcomes both locals and visitors. Les Halles de Ganges showcase regional products such as organic fruit and vegetables, goat’s and sheep’s cheese, honey, cured meats, organic bread and handcrafted olive oils.
