Aniane: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The former abbey of Aniane was founded in 782 by Saint Benedict of Aniane. Protected as a historic monument, it is located within the Grand Site de France Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert – Gorges de l’Hérault.

Culture

The Church of Saint-Sauveur has a central nave with side chapels; its crossing is topped by a dome.

The Chapelle des Pénitents preserves pre-Romanesque and Romanesque architectural elements, Gothic windows and vaults, a portal dating from the time of Louis XVI, as well as vaults restored in the 16th century. It houses a permanent exhibition and serves as a venue for concerts.

The Pont du Diable in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. It was built in the 11th century by monks from the abbeys of Aniane and Gellone.
