Sardan: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The first written mention of Sardan dates back to 1609, when the village was recorded as part of the “community of Gailhan and Sardan”.

Culture

The Puits de Sardan was built in 1877 to provide the villagers with drinking water. It serves as a stop for cycling tourists, where they can refresh themselves with drinking water.

The Pont submersible de Sardan was built in the 14th century to give residents access to the left bank of the Vidourle and the road to Nîmes. It was designed to obstruct the flow of water as little as possible during major floods of the Vidourle, such as vidourlades.

The Château de Sardan was built in the 18th century and remodelled in the 19th century. It is normally privately owned and can only be visited during the Journées du Patrimoine. The ruins of the Tour de Poujol were used to transmit optical smoke signals.

Food and Drink

At Domaine Sainte Octime in Sardan, visitors can sample red, white and rosé wines in the tasting cellar. Domaine Sainte Octime offers groups wine tastings and cellar tours by prior arrangement for up to 30 people.

Nature

Sauvages et Compagnie offers a guided tour in Sardan of a certified organic permaculture garden on the banks of the river. The garden tour introduces visitors to the principles of permaculture. It also includes a tasting of artisanal Lemarié ice cream flavours. The fruit and plants used come from the garden; the toppings are mostly grown on site and harvested when ripe.
