Saint-Just-et-Vacquières is the starting point of the mountain biking route “VTT – From the Plain to the Cliffs of Mont Bouquet”. The 26.6-kilometre circular route covers 571 metres of elevation gain and starts in the village. It combines wide paths with several technically challenging single tracks, partly climbs Mont Bouquet and offers views of the Cévennes and the area around Uzès.

Cycling and Hiking

The “Randonnée Entre garrigues et lavande” hike is a 5.5-kilometre circular route starting in Saint-Just-et-Vacquières and marked throughout with yellow PR trail markers. It passes through lavender fields, vineyards and oak groves. The hiking route also allows visitors to stop at the Bel-Air Distillery, where they can observe traditional craftsmanship.

The Sentier d’Interprétation autour de la vigne is an easily accessible and entertaining circular route for family outings. It explains the connections between organic farming and the ecosystem around Le Mas des Justes. Along the way, visitors may see hawfinches and yellow-bellied toads.

Landscape

More than 500 hectares of Saint-Just-et-Vacquières are used for agriculture. Forests and garrigue cover 70% of the area of Saint-Just-et-Vacquières.

Wine and Plants

Le Mas des Justes is an IGP Cévennes winery covering 22 hectares and practising organic and biodynamic farming, of which 11.5 hectares are planted. The wine tour includes an explanation of biodynamics and the methods used there, an introduction using a virtual reality headset and a wine tasting. In addition, Le Mas des Justes offers a guided wine tourism tour of the winery and an educational vineyard trail.

The Bel Air Distillery processes and markets organic essential oils and works with farmers who grow organic aromatic and medicinal plants (PPAM). Distillations are open to the public; guided tours and a self-guided tour are available.

Culture

In the 15th century, the communities of “Locus de Sancto Justo” and “Mansus de Vaqueris” joined together to form a single parish, from which Saint-Just-et-Vacquières later emerged.

The preserved and restored historic buildings include the Temple de Saint-Just, built in 1861, and the Château de Vacquières. The preserved and restored historic buildings of Saint-Just-et-Vacquières also include two imposing vaulted masonry viaducts from the former railway.

Also of interest are Sernhac, Dions, Bernis, Saint-Félix-De-Pallières, Pont-Saint-Esprit, Saint-Julien-De-Peyrolas, Manduel and Saint-Pons-La-Calm.
