Liouc: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The parish of Liouc has been documented since 1108. Liouc Church was probably originally the chapel of a feudal castle and was recently restored. Some remains of the 10th-century feudal castle have survived in Liouc. On the left-hand side of the entrance to the Protestant château, a now-filled-in pillory can be seen.

Near Polozargues (Écuries de Liouc), a remarkably well-preserved capitelle stands amid the vineyards.

Nature

The Fontaine de Liouc is a natural spring that has never run dry. In the garden of the presbytery next to the church stands a stone pine classified as a “remarkable tree”.

Hiking

The “Randonnées au fil de Liouc” hiking trail is four kilometres long. The route takes approximately two hours on foot from the car park.

History

The old Roman road that runs through Liouc was part of a dense road network connected to the Via Domitia. Today, the old Roman road runs through the hamlet of La Rouvière along the RD 208. An old Roman road connected Alès with Castelnau-le-Lez near Montpellier.
