Laurac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History

Laurac preserves the layout of a former castrum. The oldest surviving reference to the Église Saint-Laurent dates from 1266. By decree of 27 April 1948, most of the church was listed as a historic monument; the south chapel, the rebuilt section of the south wall and the upper bell-tower level are excluded.

The Église Saint-Laurent has a rectangular, unvaulted floor plan. A massive porch forms the base of the square bell tower, and the Renaissance portal opens beneath this porch. Porte Saliège is the last surviving remnant of the fortifications that surrounded the centre of Laurac. The Porte Saliège gate is considered to be a 13th-century structure.

Hiking

The Sentier historique de Laurac-le-Grand is 4.51 km long, takes around two hours, has an elevation gain of 166 metres and is classified as easy. It begins at the information board next to the car park at Place des Mares. The trail focuses on the eventful history of the Lords of Laurac, who were sympathetic to Catharism, as well as life in medieval castra.

Nature

At Puy Faucher, the trail reaches its highest point at an elevation of 415 m; from there, the view extends as far as the Pyrenees. A multimedia tour in the app Au cœur des Collines Cathares presents protected Natura 2000 species that fly above the Sentier historique de Laurac-le-Grand.
