Fanjeaux: Holiday apartments and houses

Since 1965, the Fanjeaux colloquia have taken place every year during the second week of July. Alongside the historic buildings and works of art, this also adds a recurring cultural event to the town’s calendar.

Culture

The Prouilhe monastery was founded in 1206 by Saint Dominic. The Chemin de Dominique follows the route once taken by Saint Dominic to reach the first monastery he founded in Prouilhe.

Construction work on the Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption was carried out between 1278 and 1281. Its west portal has seven archivolts and capitals decorated with foliage.

The disc-shaped cross of Fanjeaux dates from the 13th century and is integrated into the parapet of a 17th-century bridge. On Rue de la Tour (Rue En Pelisse) stands a small corner tower, which, following the disappearance of the other 14 towers, is the last surviving trace of the medieval citadel.

The Maison Gramont is a historic 17th-century residence on Place des Halles in Fanjeaux. In the Maison Gramont exhibition, visitors move through installations and specially designed presentations to discover contemporary works of art. The visitor route through Fanjeaux also includes contemporary sculptures by Loïc Tellier.

Nature

The Seignadou viewpoint offers views across six departments. The La Fount Picou circular hiking trail is 6 km long and starts at the tourist office on Place du Treil in Fanjeaux.

Orientation

The tourist office in Fanjeaux bears the “Accueil Vélo” label and has facilities for cycling tourists. It welcomes visitors all year round and provides advice on important sights, outdoor activities, events and local producers.
