Nature and geology

The Site géologique de Vigny-Longuesse is a Réserve naturelle régionale. It was established to welcome school groups and the public and is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility. At the same time, it is one of the co-stratotypes of the Danian stage, which spans the period from 65 to 60 million years ago. More than 400 fossil species have been recorded at the site.

Because of its sensitivity, the Site géologique de Vigny-Longuesse is not freely accessible. Visits are only possible as part of free events organized by “Sorties nature en Val d'Oise” or with special authorization from the département. At the site, geological traces can be observed that bear witness to the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Culture and history

The Château de Vigny lies in the heart of the Parc naturel du Vexin and is considered a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. It has slender towers, a keep and moats, covers 4,000 m² and contains 160 rooms, and is surrounded by a park of just under 20 hectares.

The Église Saint-Médard is also part of the local history. It was built in the neo-Gothic style by the architect Tubeuf on the initiative of and with donations from Count Philippe Vitali. It was constructed in place of the dilapidated predecessor church dating from the 13th century; the foundation stone was laid in October 1894.
