In Bougligny, the green-marked hiking trail “Chemin des violettes” runs through the Bois des Roches, which features polishing stones. The trail is very easy, 12 km long and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. It also leads through the bocage landscape around the village of Bougligny, with fields, forests, groves and hamlets.
Culture and History
The Notre-Dame Church in Bougligny has eight stained-glass windows in the nave and the choir. These stained-glass windows were listed as movable cultural heritage objects in 1985 and were created by the glass artist Charles Champigneulle. The stained-glass window “Sainte Famille à Nazareth” (window panel 4) dates from 1894 and from the last quarter of the 19th century.
The Église de la Nativité de la Sainte Vierge in Bougligny was built in the 13th century. Its choir and bell tower have been classified as historic monuments since 1926.
The cross “Croix dite de Tchenon Houy” was erected in 1870 in honour of the Virgin Mary and Saint Stephen by Etienne Houy and his family. After it collapsed, the Croix Tchenon Houy was re-erected in 1998 by the Amis du patrimoine on its original base and provided with explanatory information.
Neolithic polishing stones are still visible in the hamlet of “à la Mai” in Bougligny. Until the end of the 17th century, Bougligny had an important post station on the Paris–Lyon road. The cultural heritage in Bougligny is accessible daily throughout the year free of charge.
