Nature

The lake and the Île aux Oiseaux were designated a nature reserve in 1998. Thanks to a footpath around the lake, the Lac de Saulx-les-Chartreux is suitable for walks.

The Parc des Sources includes an old forest, a wetland and a pond. At the same time, it forms a green connection between the waterside area and the Parc de la Jonchère; the park is fully accessible to people with reduced mobility. The former Lunézy sand quarry is not open to the public.

Le Tour de Saulx-les-Chartreux is a 14.3-kilometre hiking route. It starts at the Lac de Saulx-les-Chartreux and passes through agricultural land, woodland, the hamlet of Villiers and vegetable-growing areas. The period from 1 January to 31 December is designated for this route.

Culture and history

From 1264 onwards, the Moulin de Saulx-les-Chartreux became a bann mill, available to everyone.

The Église de l’Assomption-de-la-Très-Sainte-Vierge in Saulx-les-Chartreux was formerly a priory church. Parts of the current building date back to the Romanesque period. It was listed as a historic monument by decree of 6 March 1926.
