Ville-di-Pietrabugno: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The “E nivere à cardo” hike offers impressive panoramic views of the Tuscan Archipelago. The cultural hiking trail “I chjassi di a memoria” passes through several hamlets of Ville-di-Pietrabugno and can be explored on foot. The “Randonnée autour du village” hike leads from the hamlet of Guaitella to the pass in no more than one hour; the route can be continued to the hamlet of Alzetu along a fully marked trail.

Culture and History

The Church of Sainte-Lucie in Ville-di-Pietrabugno was built in 1796 over the remains of a sanctuary dating from 1562 and is dedicated to Saint Lucy and Saint Felicitas. It features Baroque architecture and houses paintings by old masters as well as reliquaries from the modern era.

Guaitella is one of the hamlets of Ville-di-Pietrabugno and is known for its medieval houses and historic village centres. In Ville-di-Pietrabugno, the Glacière dite Nivera Nuova has been listed as a historic monument since 9 January 2018. The oldest archival references date back to the first half of the 17th century; the facility was used for ice production and supplied, among others, families from Bastia’s upper class as well as the city’s café owners. This use ended at the end of the 19th century; since then, the building has served as agricultural storage space.

Local Character

A Festa Paisana was established in 2012 and was repeatedly held in Guaitella as a summer festival. Stalls offered local products, wines, craft beers and food.
