Culture and history

The San Rinieru Chapel is a Pisan-Romanesque building erected around 1185. It is located between Montemaggiore and Lunghignano at an altitude of 420 metres. The chapel was protected by a decree dated 15 May 1930; in 1992, it was classified as a historic monument.

The Church of San Vitu in Lunghignano was built between 1801 and 1812. Its transept has an octagonal dome with a lantern.

The ruins of the old village have been preserved at the A Cima site in Montemaggiore. From there, there is a view of the Gulf of Calvi.

On 28 August, members of the brotherhoods carry Saint Augustine in a procession. A star-shaped square provides access to the surrounding streets.

Local tradition

Every year, the Fiera di l'Alivu takes place in the village of Montemaggiore in the municipality of Montegrosso. Tastings are offered at this event, combining Corsican olive oil with Corsican products. The event bears the “Site remarquable du goût” designation.
