La Chaussée-Saint-Victor: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The Église Saint-Victor dates from the 15th century, was extended in 1663 and 1700, and was almost completely rebuilt in the 19th century. It contains a 15th-century stained-glass window depicting the Charité de Saint-Martin. The “chef-reliquaire” also belongs to the Église Saint-Victor in La Chaussée-Saint-Victor. The grave of Saint-Victor lies beneath the altar of the cemetery chapel.

History

The Basses Roches wash house was recently restored. Moulin Chouard is a restored former windmill with a pivot called “Turquois” dating from the 13th to 14th century. An old wine press recalls La Chaussée-Saint-Victor’s traditional winegrowing heritage. The Balade Chausséenne leads through the streets of the old town centre; along the route, panels featuring old photographs provide information about life in La Chaussée-Saint-Victor in the past. The Balade Chausséenne also points out the house of the potter Adrien Thibault, who came from La Chaussée-Saint-Victor.

Things to Do

A 6 km hiking trail leads from the Val de Loire, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the Montprofond quarry on the Coteau. Another 3 km hiking trail leads through the town centre and along small streets lined with stone walls. A signposted path leads from Rue du Coteau to the climbing area and the Coteau.

Highlights

The Observatoire Loire offers an interactive and playful scenography for families. The scenography uses models, a weather station, knots, maps, mast manoeuvres and digital tablets. Self-guided visits are possible at the Observatoire Loire. Reservations are required for private outings at the Observatoire Loire.

Le Parc des Mées has a children’s playground and a picnic area on the banks of the Loire.

Practical Information

The outdoor area of the former Montprofond quarry is freely accessible. Access to the quarry face at Montprofond is not permitted.
