Pierre de Ronsard was born in La Possonnière in September 1524; he spent part of his youth at this family residence. The gardens of La Possonnière include a rose garden, a maze, a bosco, a green room, a pergola and a vegetable garden.
The nave of Couture-sur-Loir church dates from the 12th century; the choir was built in the Gothic style in the 13th century or possibly rebuilt. Under the bell tower, the tomb statues of Louis de Ronsard and his wife Jeanne Chaudrier are located on a cenotaph. A Rosary chapel was built there by Marie Du Bois between 1963 and 1965. The visible woodwork in the church was carved by Jean Lecomte and includes carved panels bearing the coats of arms of the King, Anne of Austria and Marie-Thérèse.

Nature
L’Isle Verte was one of Ronsard’s favourite places, where he often walked, dreamed and read; he chose the location as his burial place. The Bellerie spring was near the Manoir de La Possonnière, where Ronsard spent his youth. It is still visible, is now called Fontaine de la Belle-Iris and is only a small pond.

The “Ronsard au bord de Loir” cycling loop starts at the Manoir de la Possonnière in Couture-sur-Loir. A circular hiking trail of approximately 8.7 km in Couture-sur-Loir takes an average of around 2 hours and 30 minutes. The “Sur les pas de Ronsard” circular trail is 6 km long, takes 1 hour and 50 minutes, and starts at the car park of the Manoir de la Possonnière. The trail is signposted with PR® markings in the form of a “yellow bar”.
Local Life
The market in the centre of Couture-sur-Loir takes place twice a month and brings together vendors of locally produced food, winegrowers, plant growers and craftspeople.
