Culture and History

The Cité Agricole de Champigny was built in the last third of the 19th century. It was created by François Philibert Dessaignes between 1870 and 1897, comprises 38 individual apartments with outbuildings, and was designed to accommodate agricultural workers. Five types of houses were developed for the Cité Agricole, adapted to agricultural use and based on the longère model. The Cité Agricole is the concrete implementation of a policy shaped by the ideologies of its century. It is also mentioned as one of the sights along cycle route 26 in Champigny-en-Beauce.

The Musée Philibert Dessaignes is located on the first floor of the town hall of Champigny-en-Beauce. It displays 19th-century collections, a presentation of the work of François-Philibert Dessaignes, fossils, and prehistoric tools. The Danse Macabre collection of the Musée Philibert Dessaignes dates from 1800 and comprises 42 terracotta figures inspired by a medieval fresco on a cemetery wall in Basel. In the Église Saint-Félix, the altarpiece and its painting of the Crucifixion were registered as protected objects in 1972. The painting from Champigny-en-Beauce attributed to Botticelli was classified as a protected object on June 30, 2021.
