L'Île-Bouchard: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Construction work on the Église Saint-Gilles began in 1067. Since 7 May 1908, it has been classified as a historic monument, and its western façade preserves the round-arched portal of the original church with three archivolts decorated with roses, pine cones and palmettes.

Culture

The Prieuré Saint-Léonard has been classified as a historic monument since 1958. It was built from 1067 onwards under the authority of the Benedictine Abbey of Déols in the Indre département. The choir and, in particular, the apse have been preserved; the large capitals form an exceptional ensemble of Romanesque sculpture.

The Église Saint-Maurice was begun in 1483 under Louis II and is known for its elegant bell tower. The Saint-Lazare dolmen consists of two stone slabs, one of which has subsided.

Geographical setting

L'Île-Bouchard lies on both banks of the Vienne. The Saint-Maurice district on the left bank and Saint-Gilles on the right bank are connected by two bridges to L’Ile, the central island and birthplace of the town.
