History
The Maison du Tourisme du Castelrenaudais is located on the preserved site of the former tanneries by the river, near the Musée du cuir et de la tannerie. The Château-Renault tannery operated from 1597 to 1978; since 1985, its restored buildings have housed the Musée du cuir et de la tannerie.
The clock tower is a recently restored fortified gate dating from the 12th to the 14th century. It once protected the main entrance to the castle complex.
Nature
The Coulée Verte is a 5 km-long promenade stretching from Parc de la Source to Moulin de Launay. It offers a waterside walk through the former landscape of the tanneries and tan mills, accompanied by remarkable wildlife and plant life.
The Château-Renault rose garden is a botanical collection and ornamental garden with 350 rose bushes covering 1,300 m².
Culture
The Church of Saint-André was rebuilt in the Renaissance in 1563. It features 19th-century stained-glass windows from the Lobin workshop, as well as an organ built by Cavaillé-Coll in 1869.
In the grounds of the château, reproductions of paintings by the naive painter André Bauchant, who was from Château-Renault, are displayed outdoors at the foot of the imposing 12th-century keep.
