Vermenton: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The embranchement de Vermenton was constructed in 1880. The connection between the Cure and the Canal du Nivernais, opened in 1881, brought an end to the transportation of timber by rail and replaced it with transportation by barges.
Architecture
The two towers of the Notre-Dame Church in Vermenton preserve Romanesque bases dating from 1158. The portal features three rows of carved archivolts depicting angels, the months, the martyrdom of Saint Stephen, the musical elders of the Apocalypse, and scenes from the life of Saint Nicholas. Notre-Dame incorporates the remains of a Romanesque church within a 13th-century building; it was extended to the east in the 14th century and built as an unusual hall church.
Landscape
The Parc des ÃŽles stretches along the Cure. It consists of seven picturesque islets connected by small bridges. The Parc des ÃŽles has children's playgrounds as well as green spaces for walks and picnics. There are also quiet riverside areas for fishing and boules courts.
The old mill at the entrance to the Parc des ÃŽles was renovated after a period of decline.
Trails
The Sentier Cure passes through Reigny and continues as far as Vézelay and Avallon. The Sentier Cure also connects Lucy and Bessy-sur-Cure on foot or by bicycle.
