Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Musée Colette is located in a 17th-century château in Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye. Its collection includes manuscripts, photographs and personal belongings of Colette, as well as items from her circle.

Culture

La Maison de Colette was opened to the public in 2016 following an extensive renovation and reconstruction project. It welcomes visitors to a bourgeois house from the second half of the 19th century, designed as though its residents still lived there.

La Maison natale de Colette bears the French cultural heritage designation “Maisons des Illustres”. Colette was born there and grew up there until the age of 17, and the house became the setting for many of her novels.

Art dans les Cours & Jardins is an annual art event at which artists and craftspeople exhibit throughout the village of Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye.

From the Musée Colette, visitors can enjoy a broad panoramic view of the surrounding landscape and the writer’s birthplace.

History

The donjon of Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye is a fortified, oval-shaped defensive tower dating from the late 12th century. It served the Counts of Auxerre-Nevers as an observation and defence post.

The Tour Sarrasine formed part of the medieval fortifications that protected the village of Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye. In the past, it also served a protective function for Moutiers Abbey and the priory of Saint-Sauveur. The Tour Sarrasine is currently closed to the public, but it can be viewed from the outside.

Trails

The Sentier Colette begins at the car park of the Musée Colette on Place Blanche and is an easy 5.8 km trail. The signposted trail dedicated to Colette was opened in 1993 by students from Collège Colette in Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye. As a signposted cultural walking and geocaching trail, it can be used in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
