Culture and History

The Couvent des Sœurs de la Providence was built in 1859 to provide education for girls in the village; the former building has now been converted into rental apartments.

The Église de Saint-Germain-des-Champs preserves the bell tower dating from the 13th century, which belonged to the former church. The church was rebuilt in 1870 and 1871.

Near the Vaupitre farms lies the rock known as Pierre de légende Sainte Dietrine. Historically, it was a place of worship and a destination for numerous pilgrims; its upper basin holds approximately 100 litres of water.

In the forests on the border with Iceland lies the Villa des Chagnats, an archaeological site. During its excavation in 1838, 18 rooms were uncovered. In 1904, François Tissier identified 25 burials at the Tumulus des Chagnis. The marine mosaic from this villa can be seen at the Musée d’Avallon.
