History and Culture
The Seven-Lock Staircase was designed as a system of six adjoining locks. It was later supplemented by a seventh lock to overcome the 24-meter descent toward the Loing Valley.
The Saint Loup Church occasionally serves as a venue for concerts. The Rogny washhouse, dating from 1895, is also part of the town's history; life-size frescoes depict the work of the washerwomen.
The painting “Les Pèlerins d’Emmaüs” is dated 1757 and was classified as a Monument historique in 1908.
Guided tours of the Seven Locks explain their construction history, operation, and development from 1597 to 1887 using numerous documents.
