The Accolay pottery production center was founded in the village by four former students of Alexandre Kostanda. Accolay pottery was distinguished by great technical ingenuity and an extremely extensive output. Water and History

Jousting on the water has been held in Accolay since as early as 1830. In this region, the tradition dates back to raftsmen and boatmen who dueled on their boats while transporting timber. In the Accoloise method, the boats are propelled by two boatmen using poles.

The Association des Joutes Accoloises keeps the tradition of water jousting alive in Accolay and trains throughout the warm season on the Nivernais Canal. Accolay is also home to three washhouses along a small stream. The branch of the Nivernais Canal at Accolay was built at the end of the 19th century to transport firewood from the Morvan to Paris.

Nature and Trails

The white mulberry tree at Poirier Rond stands at a crossroads beside the GR 13 in Accolay. It is one of the northernmost known mulberry trees in Burgundy and is considered one of Burgundy’s remarkable trees.

The Trail d’Accolay comprises three nature-oriented and environmentally conscious trail events in Accolay. These include a timed 12 km Nordic walking event, a guided hike, and a children’s event.

Architecture

A church in Accolay has a long single-nave body with a paneled barrel vault. The Romanesque choir and sanctuary of a church in Accolay comprise a straight bay with a broken barrel vault and a calotte apse.
