Sougy-Sur-Loire reveals its history through its buildings and along the banks of the Loire. The Church of Saint-Bénigne is a Romanesque building dating from the 12th century, with a Latin cross floor plan. Its architectural details include an apse with a domed vault and a main window in the choir depicting Christ on the cross.

Another historic site is located in the hamlet of Tinte: the privately owned Sainte-Catherine Chapel is a rendered stone chapel dating from the 15th century and was rebuilt after a fire during the Hundred Years' War. It has a rectangular floor plan and a roof made of small flat tiles crafted from regional terracotta. The chapel also served as a filming location for the movie “Hiroshima, mon amour”.

Nature

The history of the village continues by the water. At the height of Loire shipping in the 17th century, the Port de Tinte was a stop on the Decize–Nevers–Cosne route. Limestone from quarries was transported via the port.

From the old Port de Tinte, the approximately 1 km-long path to the Gour des Fontaines passes through a remarkable natural area along the banks of the Loire. The Gour des Fontaines is a carbonate concretion in the form of a barrier extending across an underground drainage channel. Since the end of June 2023, two tables, two benches and two waste bins have also been available for visitors on the banks of the Loire in the hamlet of Tinte.

Activities

The Parc Ludique et Sportif des Varennes (PLSV) has play and sports equipment, as well as a City Stade with Brazilian football, basketball and volleyball facilities and a skate park. The park is intended for all generations and also welcomes people from the surrounding villages.

The Centre équestre des Bruyères offers lessons to prepare for validation of the Galop riding tests.
